where art & life collide

Writer's picture: Amanda KettererAmanda Ketterer

Hello lovely people x I hope you’re all well!

It’s been a while since I’ve written, and I’m so sorry for neglecting you! The truth is, life has been full, and sometimes it just runs away with you. None of us have an unlimited supply of energy, and the weeks slip by so fast—suddenly, October has turned into February.

Our dear friend, Rose, passed away recently, and losing someone too soon changes you. It’s not just the grief; it’s the reflection it forces—the way it makes you rethink everything. The start of this year hasn’t felt the same. Setting goals felt strange. The illusion of control over life has been shattered these past few years, so where do we find comfort, meaning, and peace moving forward?

Right now, I’m taking things day by day. Thinking ahead feels too hard with the way the world feels. I do pop my head up now and then to stay on top of things, but mostly, I’ve been in the studio, painting for my next solo show Where Wild Flowers Dance at Art Images Gallery in Adelaide. When I committed to this show six months ago, I had a different vision of how the time between then and now would unfold, but life has its own plans, and we do what we can.

My usual philosophy—saying yes to everything and making it happen—has definitely come back to bite me a little! Alongside this show, I’ve just completed four new paintings for the upcoming London Affordable Art Fair with Lucinda Dalton Gallery, so my studio is absolutely packed with works-in-progress of all sizes.

Where Wild Flowers Dance

Because life and art are inseparable, my next exhibition is titled "Where Wild Flowers Dance"—a continuation of the wildflower theme in my work, where flowers symbolise women. Wildflowers, in their natural beauty and resilience, reflect the untamed spirit of women. But this time, I’m seeing them through a softer, more nostalgic lens. Rose-tinted hues wash over these works, carrying the warmth of memory and the quiet strength of those who leave their mark on our lives.

Where Wild Flowers Dance explores how, even in darkness, beauty endures and the light shines through. Inspired by the loss of our friend, these 16 paintings will hold both grief and gratitude, echoing the way love lingers long after a season has changed. Like wildflowers, we turn toward the sun, reaching beyond sorrow, finding ways to bloom even when the ground feels unsteady. Stories continue, and the light always finds a way through the cracks.

I’m very much looking forward to sharing these new works with you soon.
